A Rights Respecting School

We have registered our school for the Rights Respecting School Award which has been developed by UNICEF. The Award has been developed to help everyone in schools behave responsibly by respecting each others rights.

190 of the world's 195 countries have promised to recognise the rights of children.

Click here to download a leaflet which summarises the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

In a similar way to your class representatives going along to the Pupil Council to represent you, we have MPs who go to the government meetings to represent all the people in Orkney. Alistair Carmichael does this job in London for Orkney and Shetland. He will be coming into school with some of the people who work for UNICEF to see what we do at Glaitness to try our best to be a Rights Respecting School.

Send a Smile

This year's Blue Peter Appeal is called 'Send a Smile'. The appeal is to support the global charity called Operation Smile which helps children with cleft palates all over the world. Click here to see a CBBC Newsround article about the appeal.

Blue Peter is asking children to turn unwanted T-shirts into surgical gowns. The target is 20 000 gowns which will save the charity an amazing £60 000 - enough money for 300 operations!

We are asking for donations of unwanted T-shirts, of any size or colour, which we can customise.

Please support us!

Thank you for all the Tshirts we have collected so far!

Children in Need 2009

This Friday, 20th November, we are having a dressing up day on the theme of movies and celebrities. Everyone who dresses up will give £1 donation to Children in Need.

Coins will be collected to make a Pudsey in the Playground (or hall if the weather is bad).

There will be Pudsey buns or biscuits for sale.

We raised £366.45 by baking and dressing up. We made a huge Pudsey out of coins in the hall.
